“Sometimes you just have to say it like it is” – Part 4

“Sometimes you just have to say it like it is” – Part 4

Most people simply don’t realize that *how* and *when* you address something can vary greatly from person to person.

You have something you need to discuss with a colleague.

Now you’re faced with the dilemma: How do I go about it in the best way?

🤔 What is “the right way?”

🛑 Trick question! 🛑

Every person has different preferences and needs.

The same goes for communication.

In veterinary clinics, we deal with various hierarchical levels, tasks, responsibilities, and age groups.

Often people choose a profession based on their communication style or move into roles over the years that suit them.

Specialists often have a keen eye for small details and protocols, while leaders or entrepreneurs often have (or need) a clear grasp of the bigger picture.

Multi-skilled assistants often have a service-oriented communication style and therefore work well with different personalities around them.

And then there’s the vet running consultations, who thrives on social interaction and clearly expresses opinions and advice.

How do they differ when it comes to receiving feedback?

🔸 One person wants to know exactly what happened and exactly what went wrong in their actions.

🔹 Another wants to be asked what they think, so they can brainstorm and come up with solutions.

🔸 Yet others want the honest story with lots of context and to hear specifically what needs to change.

🔹 And lastly, there are those who want to analyze the situation in detail, break it down, and schedule a follow-up plan.
