Confidential counselor
An independent, confidential and trained listening ear.
Bullying, intimidation, discrimination,
(non-)verbal or psychological violence, unwanted sexual intimacies...
It is of great importance that anyone can report unwanted conduct.
It is essential for a healthy work culture.
Employees who feel heard and can tell their story in a confidential manner are less likely to be absent from work and leave the company less often.
The safe working atmosphere in veterinary medicine is not good.
According to the KNMvD report on Mental Health among Veterinarians (2024) , 19% of veterinarians experience unwanted behavior internally in the workplace, with peaks of up to 24% among employees. Compare this to the Dutch average of 10%, this can at least be called worrying.
André is an LVV-certified Confidential Advisor through training at the National Institute for Confidential Advisors (LIVP).

What does a Confidential Advisor do?
A confidant has three tasks:
Receiving , guiding and informing the reporter
Informing , informing and inspiring the organization
Providing solicited and unsolicited advice to the board and management
What does the Law say?
The above forms of interaction fall under Psychosocial Workload (PSA).
The Working Conditions Act obliges every employer to prevent or limit these.
There must be a RI&E and policy to comply with this.
There is also a bill before the House of Representatives to make a Confidential Advisor mandatory, to come into effect in 2025.
